Matin: The Gift of Renewal

Traditionally, a “matin” is a service of song and prayer. It has also been used to refer to the morning song of birds. Our version of a matin is a service of music, reflection, and blessings. Join us for meditations and music on “The Gift of Renewal,” our theme for June. Music by Michael Thompson. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.)

Flower Communion

Our annual multigenerational Flower Communion service will focus on those CUF people and experiences that have sustained us over the past year. We’ll create a bouquet of blessings for all of those folks and moments. Whether you’re participating online or in person, please bring a flower for our bouquet, we’ll have extras if you forget. Music by the CUF Choir, Michael Thompson, Director, and by Elana Floyd-Kennett on organ. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.)

Always Another Story

One threat to pluralism is the acceptance and retelling of a single story – seeing only one interpretation of an event or situation. Rev. Sarah leads an exploration of how we might expand our views beyond the one narrative that we hear and tell about “the other.” Music by Candy Davis & Marty Merrill. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.)

Graduation Sunday

High school graduation is an important life transition for the individual, family, and congregation. In this celebratory service we honor our graduating senior, Madi Herzog, and listen to her reflection. We also recognize our new members – another transition significant on personal and community levels. Music by the CUF choir, directed by Michael Thompson. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.)

Picturing Pluralism

Our congregational goal for living out the value of pluralism is to “Develop ways to welcome and celebrate our differences, support our authentic selves, develop a culture of covenant and embrace diversity in the wider community.” In this multigenerational service, led by Rev. Sarah, all ages are invited to think about, write about and draw what fulfilling that goal looks like in our everyday lives. Music by Dorothy & Kent McDaniel. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.)

Using our Values to Create our Future

Who do we want to be, and what do we want to accomplish as a faith community in the next five years? Using the new UUA statement of values as a frame, members of the Strategic Planning Team will explain how the plan developed, and invite our input for its completion. Music by Warren Bush. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.) (Graphic by Tanya Webster.)

Climate Positivity

When thinking about current and future impacts of climate change, many of us cycle between anxiety born of fear and apathy born of helplessness. Rev. Sarah leads this service about ways we can break the cycle, moving to hope born of collective action. Music by Maki Ito Pardieck. (Services are in-person and via Zoom.)

Black Maternal Health

The Reproductive Justice Group has invited Chastity Mays to speak about Black Maternal Health as part of our year-long social justice focus on reproductive health. The reproductive health of black mothers and babies, their higher risk of complications, and a history of forced sterilizations are a few of the issues faced by black women even in current times. Music by CUF Choir, Laura Van Abbema and Colleen Springer-Lopez. (Services are in-person and via Zoom.)

Declaration of Interdependence

What are all the ways that we experience the gift of interdependence throughout our lives? Rev. Sarah and CUF folks of different generations share stories of connection with the earth and all living things. This is a multigenerational service – children over four will join in the fun. Music by Stephanie Reece. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.)

The Path of Totality

There’s nothing like a rare astronomical occurrence to remind us of the interdependent nature of our existence. In this eclipse-themed service, Rev. Sarah reflects on how an event lasting minutes can change our lives. Eclipse apparel encouraged! Music by CUF choir, Michael Thompson, Director, Elana Floyd-Kennett, Accompanist. (Services are in-person and on Zoom.) (Eclipse art by Matthew Sronkoski.)
